FROM AFAR

While at Walmart yesterday, I saw a beautiful Great Dane dog. He looks small in the photo but he was actually a big dog. I am amazed at how gentle Great Danes are. He is the second Great Dane I have seen that is very calm and behave in crowds. Like always I couldn't resist taking a photo, I didn't go to close since he looked like he was working. Usually when dogs are working their handler won't let them socialize with people. I don't  know if that is the norm but I have come across several handlers who would politely say that their dogs are working right now and they are not to be petted.

I was not a dog lover. In fact, It a while for me to even warm up to the thought of getting a dog. My reason for not wanting a dog was simple. I didn't want my house to smell like a dog. That all changed when my BIL's dog had a litter of puppies. I couldn't very well say no, I was defeated 3-1. Our dog Sunny has won me over, he is the gentlest and sweetest dog ever. He is amazing with the kids and watches over them like a mother hen. Since our dog is 112 lbs I want another dog that is big so hence, the Great Dane. Hopefully within the next 3 years we will own one. Until then, I will just be content admiring them from afar.

READY TO FLY?

A follow up on the 3 little birdies we found in a bush in our backyard. Ever since we discovered the nest both Ralph and I have been keeping tabs on the nest and the little birdies in it. I could see the birds from the kitchen sink. When I am washing something I see either the mama bird or the daddy bird standing over the nest. I could see the baby birds mouth open wide to eat the worm that the papa/mama bird caught. In just a few days the 3 little hairless birds we saw are bigger and they have more feathers in them. When I took this picture I knew it wasn't going to be long before each birdie fly off the nest. And 2 days after I took this photo we saw the last of the 3 birdies fly off the nest. Its the way of life and what a wonderful way it is.

LIL BABIES

Ralph found something in one of the bushes outside in our backyard. He was doing some yard work when he noticed out dog Sunny getting excited and going into the bush just outside our kitchen window. He was trimming the bush on the other side of the house and didn't think much about it. It wasn't until he to inspect the shrub that is just outside our kitchen that he saw it. A perfectly made nest with 3 little baby birds in it. Ralph got excited and called to me right away. I could not believe how perfectly shaped and strong the nest was. How can something so small without any hands or fingers do something so intricate and sturdy at the same time. Sunny must have seen the mama bird going in and out of the bushes and tried to catch it. We fell in-love with the baby birds and we have kept tabs on them. Making sure that Sunny doesn't keep going near the bush and to see if the mama bird does come back. Of course when the mama bird was not in the next with her babies, we saw her perching on the tree branch near the house keeping watch on her babies. It made me realize that even a bird with no hands or fingers can do something like this how much more with us humans. With 10 fingers and two hands. It just shows that nothing is impossible and it can be done. I have updates on the baby chick and ill tell you more about it on my next time...

SO LONG MINNIE

Look at what our dog dragged in! Poor Minnie Mouse has seen better days. This was Kaitlyn's toy, I forgot who gave it to her but this one talks. Our dog Sunny don't really chew their toys but the kids let him play with this once and now he thinks that its his toy. My kids have so many stuffed toys in the house, I am donating some of it soon. Kaitlyn was sad when she saw what happened to her Minnie Mouse. I explained to my kids that it wasn't Sunny's fault. They should never have let him play with it and leave there toys all over the floor in the playroom. Like most kids they make a mess and whine when its time to clean up. Now, I made up a rule that they can play with almost any toy in the playroom as long as they clean up after themselves and it has to be one toy at a time. They usually follow it but if you don't stay on top of the situation they will take advantage, lol. What can you do? Kids can be kids but that doesn't mean I will tolerate bad behavior. And as for Minnie Mouse I had to throw her in the garbage before Sunny gets a hold of the voice box inside her and choke or something. Do you think my kids have learned their lesson about not leaving stuffed toys on the floor? They haven't, I still have to constantly remind them to pick up the toys on the floor so Sunny won't chew it. As for the dog, he knew he was in big trouble and just gave me that sad doggy eye look with his head down. Its seems like I now have 3 kids, 2 of them human and 1 is a dog, lol....

HIS ALL OF THE ABOVE

Meet our very own personal lifeguard, pet, baby boy, kids pillow and so on. Labrador Retrievers are supposedly water dogs, well our dog must be different because he does not like to go swimming. He did fell in the pool about half a dozen times when he slips from doing his round around the pool deck. Yup, he patrols the surrounding area the deck that surround the pool. Once his satisfied that everything is up to par he lays down near me and just watches the kids splash in the water. He gets his share of getting splash but he does not mine, not with the weather being so hot. Sunny is the perfect house dog and we could not ask for anything more. The only thing that we need to work on is his chewing. He does not chew our couch or chairs but he chewed my sandal, my flip-flop and anything he can find that either belongs to me or the kids. He does this when we leave him alone in the house for a long period of time. It's like his showing how upset he is for getting left behind. And when he does something wrong he knows it to. As soon as we walk in the door and I see him with his head bowed and just has this remorseful look I know right away he did something. He can be a pain in the behind sometimes but we would not trade him for another dog.

SUNNY AND HIS CAKE

Guess who just turned 1 year old last Jun 6, 2010? Our dog Sunny, a Labrador Retriever. We got him from my BIL Angelo when he was just a tiny puppy. And now he is so big but very gentle. I am not usually a dog lover but Sunny just barked his way into my heart with his gentleness and his goofiness. He is more like Kaitlyn's dog than aything, they play all day and he takes all the abuse from her. Sunny is a very protective dog, he will immediately come between Kaitlyn and us if he thinks that she is in danger. He is still a puppy and he has a playful side of jumping on the kids when he gets so riled up. With him being a big dog the kids get hurt but not that bad, they just get knocked down by him or get a few scratches from his nails.

Just look at my babies with their protector Sunny. I just had to go out last Sunday to get him a cake. After all he is a part of the family and he deserves it! Happy Happy Birthday baby boy!

SUNNY COMFORTS HIS PAL SMOKEY

Pets are not only animals they we take care of, they are part of our family. Last week we had such a big scare, Smokey my MIL grey cat got so ill. Smokey is a big fat cat with a leave me alone personality. Last week MIL noticed that he was struggling to breathe and was just laying down and not move for long hours. She got so emotional thinking that he may die anytime soon. He did not eat for about 4 days and he lost a lot of weight. I took the photo here at night when Smokey was still so sick. Sunny our dog with his E-collar still on felt the need to comfort Smokey. Normally Sunny could not get near Smokey for he would sneer and attack him but this night he was so sick that he just laid down on the floor for the longest time. Sunny saw him and just laid down beside him. He refuses to leave him alone and by the look on his eyes you could tell that Sunny was really concerned about the Alpha Cat in the family. Usually at night when its just me and him, he would follow me around in every room I would go into but on this night he just laid down with Smokey. That got me so scared that maybe Smokey was going to die that night. Isn't it surprising how even animals feels compassion and concern? I realized right then and there that Sunny is indeed the perfect dog for our family. As for Smokey he may be mean and ornery sometimes but Kaitlyn loves him to death and adores him. He would have been missed had he died... Thankfully Smokey overcame whatever he was feeling and he is almost back to his normal self. I guess it also means Sunny can no longer snuggle up to him,lol... I'm just happy that our family pets are all okay.

SUNNY AND HIS E COLLAR

Our baby boy Sunny with his E collar on. He got neutered last Monday, November 30th. He stayed at the ASPCA overnight and Ralph picked him up the next day. I felt so bad for our little goof ball.

Neutering is the removal of the reproductive organ of male animals and is commonly referred to as the de-sexing of male animals removing the testicles. Its advised to have dogs fixed before they turn 6months.

Hopefully he will calm down a lot so we can take him outside for a walk. I tried bringing him to the bus stop one time and it was a huge mistake. A mistake that I almost paid with a dislocated shoulder or arm. Sunny's E collar was so worn by the time we finally took it off. He bumped into anything and everything. Kaitlyn got the worse of it coz she constantly gets knocked down by Sunny for the reason that he could not see. The E collar was suppose to be on for 2 weeks but we have had enough of being bruised and injured by it that we cave in and took it off. Of course we also made sure that his incision was all healed. Sunny is cone free and he is doing just fine...

OUR SOON TO BE PUPPY

This will be the newest addition to our family. Photo was taken July 1 when we visited my BIL Angelo for the day. The puppies have grown so much and they all looked so cute but my heart was stolen by this one black puppy. She had the biggest head among all the black puppies with the most adorable sad face. She looked at me and I knew we were going to end up having a puppy. It didnt help that Kaitlyn was all over the puppy. Ralph left the final decision to me since I am the master of the house, lol. If it it were not for Kaitlyn and Kayla and their love for a dog I would never consider getting one. It also helped that Labrador Retriever are excellent pets for families who have kids. I have seen the way Sam the puppies mommy acts around Kaitlyn.

July 18th is going to be the official day we will welcome this new addition to the family. I still worry about the dog smell and hair but since I know one great product that really helps my worries are laid to rest. Hmmmmm, I wonder if our house will ever be the same, lol

GET RID OF THE SHEDDING AND SMELL, FIND THE SOLUTION

I recently posted about the Sam and her puppies. She is a pure breed Labrador Retriever and owned by my BIL. The day she was having the puppies we went over to my BIL house to welcome the newest addition to the family. Of course our oldest asked if she could have one and told her that daddy and I will have to discuss about it. Well, it is official we will not be getting a puppy anytime soon. Why? We already have two cats Oreo and Smokey and one dog Nickie. Smokey and Nickie are my MIL pets. The one thing I dislike about having pets is that they shed. We have a black area rug in our family room and when the dog comes out she shakes and the rug gets covered in hair. It drives me nuts specially since Kaitlyn loves laying down on the area rug and the dog hair makes it look so dirty, filthy and I hate the smell of dog hair. If only Nickie would not smell and shed she would be the perfect dog. There is a solution, Dinovite is the newest nutritional supplement product that is made solely of our cats and dogs.It helps fill in the nutritional gap left by giving them regular dog or cat foods. I just found out that if you give your pets the right nutritional supplements and foods the itching, scratching and smell will no longer be a problem. For more information check out the solutions center . If that is the case we may reconsider getting another puppy since Nickie is getting old and both our girls love dogs.

SAM AND HER BABY PUPPIES

June 6th, Saturday, I got a call from my BIL Angelo letting me know that Sam is having her puppies. She only had 4 when he called me and of course I was excited to see the new puppies. I hurriedly called Ralph and asked if it was alright with him if MIL, Kaitlyn, Kayla and I take a drive over to Angelo's to see the new puppies and stay overnight. Ralph said it was fine with him since he is working and won't be able to spend time with us anyway. So off I hurried like a bee, packing stuff here and there. As soon as we were ready we head on out. By the time we got there Sam already had 8 puppies. They are pure breed Labrador Retriever.
We oohhhed and ahhhhed over the new puppies and Sam was gracious enough to let us touch and hold her babies. Kayla asked if she could have a puppy and we all laughed, I just told her that daddy and I had to talk about it. If we were to get a dog I would pick the black one. When they transferred Sam to the basement she had her last puppy and that made a total of 9 puppies.

GOOD NEWS FOR PET OWNERS

How many pets do you have in your household? If you ask me, i feel like a home is not complete without a pet. We have exactly 4 pets in the house a dog, 2 cats, and a very noisy guinea pig. We all love our pets and they become a part of our family, some even go as far as treating pets as if they were children. Pets no matter what they are need love, care, attention and most specially they need to be seen regularly by a vet. In our case, we had to forgo the vet visits for a year now since we are really tight with the budget. I does make us worry about the health of our pets since our two girls play with them on a daily basis. Its good to know that Pet Information is available online and is easily accessible. The site has all the information a pet owner would like to know from breed, to health, to behaviour. Its a very helpful site as it even has latest news about anything that pertains to our little or big pets. When you sign on you can keep track of your pets important records, make a detailed profile of your pets, set and manage helpful reminders and connect with other members. If you want more information about pet care just visit the site and for sure you will find the answer to your questions.

HE BIT HER

Smokey my MIL's cat is fat, lazy and mean. Even with all this everybody still loves him specially the baby. She would follow him everywhere and tries to give him hugs and kisses all the time. Smokey has this disposition that he will only come to you at his convenience and will swat, hiss and scratch you if his not in the mood. He has scratched the baby a couple of times on the side of the face already but nothing really major. About 5 days ago Smokey finally did something,he bit the baby on the forearm. He was getting annoyed at the baby trying to give him some loving and just kept pushing on his back. I just turned my head when i heard the baby crying and holding her arm. I thought he just scratched her so i pulled up her sleeve but could not find a mark but the baby was still crying hard. I pulled up the sleeve further and saw two puncture wound on her arm. It was a bite mark, Smokey finally gave in and bit her. Good thing it really didn't penetrate the skin but left indents of his fangs. When the baby saw the cat again she screamed right at him, she was so angry screaming at him,lol.. Now i don't take chances of leaving her with Smokey. They still both love each other.
